During your visit to California Appellate Defense Counsel’s (“CADC”) website, our web server automatically gathers and stores certain information about your use of the site. This information does not personally identify you, and your e-mail address is not collected in this automatic process.

Credit /Debit Card Information

Security

While no online service is 100% secure, we work very hard to protect information about you against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction, and take reasonable measures to do so, such as monitoring our Services for potential vulnerabilities and attacks.

CADC Member Profiles

When an individual registers online as a member of CADC they create an account which includes a member profile, and they may use the account to change their contact information. CADC maintains the information in the member profile even after an individual is no longer member. The types of personal information collected in the creation of a member profile may include:

  • Contact name
  • Business name
  • Address, city, state and zip
  • E-mail address
  • Phone number
  • Fax number
  • Practice type
  • Credit/debit card information

You are solely responsible for all use of the website under your password or through your account. When you create your member profile, you will likewise need to choose a username and password.

If you lose your password or suspect unauthorized use of your account, you must inform CADC immediately. CADC will not be liable for any loss or damage resulting from your failure to safeguard your password and account.

CADC Forums

Members of CADC may post questions and comments on one or more of CADC’s forums. When members post to the forums or leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public [logged-in members] in the context of your comment.

How We Use Personal Information

Financial information

Since features exist on CADC’s website that enable or will enable visitors (both members and non-members) to make purchases, receive services and/or register for events online using their credit/debit card, the financial information collected by CADC during these transactions is used solely by CADC or its vendors who collect this information for CADC. This information is not shared with outside parties except for the purposes of finalizing the transaction. This information is not used for any other purpose whatsoever. CADC is further committed to protecting the security of your personal financial information, and has in place various security measures to safeguard this information from unauthorized access, use, and/or disclosure.  Once a transaction is completed, CADC purges the financial information used to facilitate or consummate the transaction.

ADDITIONAL USES OF INFORMATION FROM MEMBERS

As required by law, good faith or exigent circumstances CADC reserves the right to access, use, preserve, or disclose personal information as required by law or in the good faith belief that such action is reasonably necessary to:

  • comply with the law or legal process served on CADC or CADC website
  • protect and defend the rights, interests or property of CADC, its respective volunteers, agents or third parties
  • to protect the personal safety of CADC members or members of the public in general

Sending an email to CADC

If you choose to send us an e-mail that includes personal information, normally we will use the information provided only to respond to your message and for no other purposes. We do not use the information to create personal profiles, or give it to others for commercial use or other purposes without your consent.

Please note, communications you send to CADC are not confidential or protected by any professional privilege or relationship. If you send us a threat or message that describes or promotes unlawful activity, CADC reserves the right to share such threat or message with law enforcement authorities.
